The Borussia Dortmund manager has admitted that the club’s previous outing in the UEFA Champions League was below par and is hopeful of improvement.
Die Borussen had another sensational campaign last season as they won the domestic double; the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. The team was mighty impressive in the league as they accumulated a record 81 points, eight points more
than second placed Bayern Munich, to lift their second successive Bundesliga trophy.
However, the team’s showing in the UEFA Champions League was disappointing as the German champions were knocked out in the group stage. The side finished at the bottom of Group F and secured only four points from the six games
played.
Klopp insisted that the team played well in the competition but were unlucky with the results. He admitted that the team was inconsistent throughout the tournament which was surely disappointing for the fans. He is hopeful that
the side will come up with the right results this time around and is confident of a good showing.
“We played really well in the Champions League last season, only without consistency. We hoped to give our best but managed only 80 percent, which is not good enough in a top competition like that,” he was quoted as saying in an
interview.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 boss stressed on the importance of a good performance in Europe’s premier club competition. He stated that Dortmund can go far in Europe and insisted that there is no reason why the club cannot emulate their
German counterparts Bayern Munich, a side which reached the final of the Champions League last season.
The tactician added that the club has no pressure after a dismal campaign last term and is confident that this year will be a breakthrough year for Dortmund in Europe.
“However, this year claiming the Champions League remains one of the club's objectives, a feat that is not impossible, seeing how Bayern Munich reached the finals. We feel clear about our potential, and the pressure is off after
our last outing,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach are the four teams to represent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 in the UEFA Champions League next season.
