The Borussia Dortmund manager hailed the Paraguayan striker whose first goal of the season helped the Borussians regain their lead atop the league standings.
Jurgen Klopp has showered praise on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-Barrios-c22533 for his second-half strike against Nuremberg that handed Dortmund a well-deserved victory in the Bundesliga. The Borussians battered Nuremberg on Friday, February 3, courtesy a
goal each from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Kehl-c32732 and Barrios.
Barrios was almost certain to leave the club during the winter transfer window due to limited opportunities in the starting XI with English sides Fulham and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 interested in acquiring him. The attacker decided to stay eventually,
stating that the supporters’ affection had stopped him from leaving the club.
The striker started the game on the bench in Dortmund’s game against Nuremberg, and was only called in the 72nd minute to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-Lewandowski-c31255.
However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paraguay-c2979 international proved his critics wrong by scoring in the 82nd minute to open his season’s tally. Klopp also showed his delight at Barrios’ goal, and assured him of more opportunities in the future.
While talking to the official club website after the game, the manager further added:
"http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528 really deserved this goal. He is feeling good and it is normal that he is not happy when he is not starting games. We now have 14 more games and hopefully a few more cup games so we need to have his quality in our attack.”
On the other hand, Klopp admitted that the Nuremberg trip was not one the easiest for his side as they had to work extremely hard against their devoted opponents. He opined that a series of corners for the home side made things
a bit difficult for his team, but he is pleased to get away without conceding a goal.
"We definitely had to work hard for this win. It was a big challenge from start to finish. They had a string of corners, each one becoming more and more dangerous, and we knew it was not going to be so easy. That makes the win
so special," Klopp concluded.
The Black-Yellows are currently sitting atop the league table with 43 points, three clear of Bayern Munich and Schalke.
