Jurgen Melzer, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki commit to Malaysian Open 2011 – Tennis News
Austrian Jurgen Melzer and Serbs Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki will appear in the third edition of the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 – an ATP World Tour 250 series event held indoors at the 16,000 seats Putra Stadium.
The Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 is an $ 850,000 event held from 26thSeptember to 2nd October on indoor hard courts at the 16,000 seat Putra Stadium. Due to the fans requests, the tournament director,
Nick Freyer lured some top ranked players in this event. Melzer who had great Wimbledon showing this season and the Serbs, who led their country to glory at the Davis Cup, will be joining Australian teenager Bernard Tomic in this event.
“I am really delighted that Melzer, Troicki and Tipsarevic will be making their debuts in Malaysia. With their strong rankings and with one being a Wimbledon Doubles Champion and the other two Davis Cup heroes for Serbia, we are
excited to be able to welcome them, and look forward to introducing them to Malaysian fans,” Freyr said.
The left handed Austrian won Men’s Doubles title at Wimbledon last year with German Philipp Petzschner and clinched the Mixed Doubles title at Wimbledon this year with Iveta Benesova.
The 30-year-old Melzer made a top ten showing this year but is currently ranked at eighteen in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings. He shelved three ATP titles in his career and is in good shape this season. The Austrian
made final eight appearances at Marseille and Barcelona and reached the semi-final at Monte Carlo.
“I have played throughout Asia but have never taken the opportunity to visit Kuala Lumpur before now and I am really looking forward to it,” Melzer said. “Other players have told me the hospitality and hotel is great and the people
and fans there are very enthusiastic and welcoming. I think it will be great to visit a new country and city so I’m looking forward to it.”
The Serbs, on the other hand, made an incredible run in last year’s David Cup which led them Winning ITF men’s team trophy for the first time.
World number fifteen, Troicki had an awesome run of form this season. He reached his career high rank at number twelve and made a final berth at Sydney this season. Troicki also made quarter-final showing at Doha, Monte Carlo and
Halle and reached semi-finals at Rotterdam. However, the 25-year-old re-ignited his spark at the David Cup this month and defeated Swedes Michael Ryderstedt and Robert Lindstedt to lead his country to glory.
Tipsarevic, on the other hand, is enjoying at his career high rank at number twenty-three and is in brilliant run of form. He made final berth twice this season: at the hard courts of Delray Beach where he lost to Argentinean Juan
Martin Del Potro and at the grass courts of Eastbourne before retiring with a groin injury against Italian Andreas Seppi.
