The Tricolores and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/NAC-Breda-c39983 played out a 1-1 stalemate in the opening game of the 2012/13 season, and the newly promoted Eredivisie side’s boss insists that his troops can do better.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Willem-II-c40945 Tilburg head coach, Jurgen Streppel, has insisted that his side can perform better after watching the 1-1 stalemate against NAC Breda in the new Eredivisie season opener at Koning Willem II Stadion on Friday, August 10.
“I think we can do better. We have a pretty good team. The players only have to be convinced of their qualities. It is difficult, but we must do it. We must play positive football, so we can secure maximum points”, Streppel was
quoted as saying to soccernews.nl.
The Dutch trainer went on to reveal that his side commenced the match brightly in front of their home crowd, but their early dominance and brightness faded away as the match progressed.
“I think first ten minutes or so, we played brilliantly. After that, NAC took control of the game. We created three wonderful opportunities, but we failed to find the net. You just have to avail your chances if you want to secure
three points”, Streppel concluded.
Willem II started the game impressively, but their dominating play faded as the match progressed. Much of the action took place at the centre of the pitch in the opening 45 minutes, as both sides went into the half-time break level
on terms.
In the second-half, both sides resumed action cautiously. However, the home side started to assert their authority, and broke the deadlock in the 79th minute through Jens Podevijn.
Three minutes before the full-time whistle, NAC managed to restore parity when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anthony-Lurling-c6220 unleashed a powerful shot that found the top corner of the net.
When the referee blew the whistle to end proceedings at Koning Willem II Stadion, the score-line read 1-1 with both sides sharing the spoils.
The Tricolores will lock horns against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Groningen-c39119 in their next Eredivisie encounter at Euroborg Stadion on Sunday, August 19. Streppel would be keen to secure his side’s first away win of the season in Groningen.
