Jurgen Van Den Broeck all set to lead Team Lotto-Belisol in 2013
Team Lotto-Belisol has managed to achieve its ultimate goal by receiving the World Tour licence for the new season, as announced by UCI on December 10th, 2012.
The team is training hard to ensure it manages to secure best results during the debut season at the top level of the sport under the watchful and experienced leadership of Jurgen Van Der Broeck.
The cyclist is eyeing his fifth appearance at the most awaited race of the season, the Tour de France and hopes to improve his fourth overall position at the race, which he managed to achieve in 2010 and 2012 editions of the race.
He was brilliant during the Tour de France 2012 but was not good enough to match the likes of Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome as the British duo dominated the three-week race, achieving the first and the second overall positions after receiving maximum
support from Team Sky.
Vincenzo Nibali occupied the third overall spot and Van Broeck had to settle for the fourth position, which is his career’s best finish in any of the three Grand Tour races across the season.
“Every year I hope to be good and do a bit better and I hope that I can do it once. I could do it once then it would be a dream for me. I will keep on training and working for it every day,” said Van Den Broeck.
While commenting on his goals for the new season, the 29-year-old stated, “I just wanted to change a bit and try Romandie instead of the classics and then we will see,” he said. “Sometimes a change can be good”.
He further added, “Maybe one day we will switch the programme. At the moment the team still wants me to be good at the Tour, because the Tour is the biggest race of the season, with all of the publicity”.
Team Lotto Belisol was brilliant during the 2012 season and UCI had to admit its position as a World Tour team, having first division licence means the team will receive an automatic invitation to all the World Tour cycling races of the season.
