Jurgen Van Den Broeck charged up for the Criterium du Dauphine 2012
Jurgen Van Den Broeck rode brilliantly during the Criterium du Dauphine and claimed the fifth overall position during the French race.
The 29-year-old is warming up for the Tour de France and his performance at the Criterium du Dauphine race has definitely made him a pre-race favourite.
"The condition is on the point where I wanted to have it so I’m happy after the Dauphiné," he told Cyclingnews.
"The test for me was the time trial, and it was a good one. When we went uphill, I was good but not super, but we expected that, so I’m happy with how things went".
"I worked a lot on climbing when I turned professional, and maybe my time trialling went a little bit down because of it".
"I’ve started working again on it now because we know it’s going to be so important for the Tour”.
Cadel Evans and Bradley Wiggins were the two top names during the race but the Belgian was nothing less than spectacular during the seven-day race.
Bradley Wiggins if Team Sky achieved the top overall spot with Michael Rogers of Team Sky finishing 1 minute and 17 seconds behind at the second position.
Cadel Evans of Team BMC, Christopher Froome of Team Sky and Jurgen Van Den Broeck of Team Lotto Belisol occupied the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Jurgen started his professional pursuit with Team US Postal in 2004 and helped the side with various victories during his three years stay with the team.
He accepted an offer from Team Davitamon-Lotto in 2006 and has shown faith in the Belgium side for the seventh consecutive season.
Van holds as many as six Grand Tour appearances under his belt including two Giro d’Italia, three Tour de France and one Vuelta a Espana participation to his name.
He finished seventh during the Giro d’Italia 2007, fourth during the Tour de France and occupied the eighth overall spot during the most recent edition of the Vuelta a Espana 2011.
Jurgen is now warming up for the 99th edition of the Tour de France scheduled from June 30 to July 22.
