Jurgen Van Den Broeck drops seven positions during the 47 kilometre stage 10 at the Vuelta
Jurgen Van Den Broeck is currently at the 12th position after the stage 10 general classifications with 2 minutes and 21 seconds behind the race leader Christopher Froome of Sky Procycling. Jurgen commented before the stage 10 as he mentioned,
“The first balance sheet will be done in Salamanca [the 47km time trial on Monday].”
He was seen struggling during the 179.5 kilometre stage 9 at the Vuelta a Espana as he finished the race conceding 19 seconds to his major rivals but was hopeful that his performance in the coming stages will help his way towards the general classifications.
Broeck was at fifth position after the stage 9 general classifications and he was rather happy with his performance as he mentioned, “I only had to let go in the end, so it’s not so bad. I’m already happy just to be here, so why should I cry over those 19
seconds.”
The 28-year-old finished the Tour de France 2010 at 5th place and was looking good at the Tour in 2011 during the first week as he was a serious contender for the general classifications. Unfortunately Jurgen ended up in a crash as he was left
with a fractured shoulder and broken ribs. Van had to abandon the Tour as he left for surgery after the stage 9 of Tour de France 2011.
Cyclist is now continuing his form at Vuelta and is hopeful to find a place at the general classifications as Jean Pierre Heynderickx who is the general manager for Omega Pharma lotto commented about Van’s performance as he said, “I can see that Jurgen has
a lot of confidence. The way I see it, he can have a good strike at Rodriguez, Anton and a few others.”
Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver of team Katusha who was just one second behind the general classification leader at stage 9 Bauke Mollema was expected to lose time during the 47 kilometre stage 10 and rightly so as he lost precious 3 minutes and 23 seconds and
is now at 14th position after the stage 10 general classifications.
Jurgen is now two positions ahead Rodriguez and is still a contender of a general classification as it will be interesting to see how he approaches the 171 kilometre stage 11 of Vuelta a Espana after the first rest day.
