Jurgen Zopp overcomes Adrian Mannarino in second round fixture – IPP Open 2011 CH
Jurgen Zopp, Estonian world No.147, decimated his second round challenger of IPP Open 2011, Adrian Mannarino, World N0.83, as the Estonian came back in set two, ousting the French rival with a 6-7(6), 7-5, 6-1 victory in a long
two hour and 13 minutes of hard indoor court hustle on Thursday, 24th November at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
Commencing with the fixture, the two warmed up and followed with the service toss. Mannarino, winning the service toss, took his side to opening up the first set. Zopp, however, broke early, game one, to start up strong, 1-0. Following
with a service winner, 23-year-old bagged his second consecutive winner holding his serve to lead 2-0.
Mannarino, serving for the second time, once again broke down losing third consecutive game, 0-3, and stood to return again. Frenchman, however, bounced back as he broke back right away, game four, and served out game five, to
cut the lead to 2-3.
The scores levelled up for the first time when the world No.83 served out game seven and broke in game eight evening up at 4-4. Following with winners, the two levelled up at 5-5 and eventually in a tiebreak with the Frenchman
steadily taking away the tiebreaker with a 8-6 win and winning the set, 7-6(6), to lead the fixture, 1-0.
With a fiery start to the match, the two continued with set two with Zopp taking away game one with a triple game point winner, 1-0, followed by the Frenchman levelling up right away, 1-1. The two ignited, breaking each other in
the next three games with Mannarino breaking twice and Zopp only once.
Hoping to finish up in straight set, Zopp switched the scenario. Saving the match, Zopp broke back in game ten to level up at 5-5. Serving out game eleven, the 23-year-old Estonian broke again in game twelve stunning the Frenchman
by taking away the second set in a blink of an eye, 7-5.
Moving onto the decider, Zopp started off with the first game, serving out and leading the table, 1-0. Estonian was next to impossible to beat now. Breaking the higher ranked Frenchman early in the set, 23-year-old took a two games
lead in the start and made it 3-0 as he served out his second serve, game three.
Mannarino covered up winning game four, however, could not win any more after that. Estonian thrashed his French challenger in back-to-back games to finish off the set with a 6-1 run and the match surprisingly well.
Winning the second round, Zopp qualifies for the quarter-final stage of the ATP Challenger Tour event and plays Canadian fireball, Frank Dancevic for the semis spot.
