Jury Duty...On Call for 5 days.?

I got a notice and it told me to call for 5 days. what are the chances of me being picked for service. this is my first notice. Im 19 year old.

  1. It varies, do you live in a low crime area.  Where I am the county court house may have only 1 jury trial a month, so the odds of serving are extremely low.  In a big city the probability increases.


  2. You've got the same chance as everyone else who's been told to call or send back the form they sent you.

    If you've got a physical or mental disability that would be harmful for you to participate, you could be excused. If you have to take care of someone else, you could be excused.

    They'll ask you a series of questions to determine whether or not you're eligible.

  3. You get put in an "On Call" status because not every case scheduled for trial will actually make it into the court room.  Many of the accused parties will plead "Not Guilty" at the advice of their lawyer, regardless of the evidence against them.  By doing that, it gives the lawyers more time to stroke the prosecutors in an attempt to plea bargain.  When all the time before trial is gone & a deal has been reached, most will change their plea to avoid going to trial & risking a stiffer punishment.
