Question:

Jury Duty/Pregnant Spouse?

I am 39w6d pregnant. My due date is tomorrow; however, my husband has been called for jury duty starting tomorrow! What are the chances he can get out of it? If he can't, will I be allowed to accompany him to the "trials" in case I go into labor (since cell phones won't be allowed how else would I reach him?) I know he has talked to one lady already and she couldn't give him any kind of answer as to what to do. Anyone have any thoughts?

  1. Did you just become 9 months pregnant or have you been pregnant for a while now?  Normally, a person is called for jury duty weeks or months in advance.  When you are first called is the time to deal with issues like this.  I'm not sure why your husband waited until 1 day before to handle this.  The proper thing to do would be to ask for a postponement and they may ask for a note from your doctor.  However, with only 1 day left, there isn't much time to deal with this.

  2. Every county / state is different, but I believe most will let him off without a fight.  He needs to speak to a judge and explain the situation.
