Jury Duty but I won't be in state??

I got my mail today and found out I have Jury Duty.The thing is I am planning my wedding and I leave the same day of my Jury summons.We bought our ticket already and Im here in C.A. and I have to go to N.C. to plan this wedding and I don't know when I will be back.My wedding is in July and after the wedding Im going to Japan with the husband because we are being stationed there. AHHH I NEED HELP!! I don't know what to do.

  1. Write to them. If you can somehow provide official documentation for this (receipt for your plane tickets to Japan, some kind of documentation about your wedding, etc.), that would help tremendously. All I had to do was to say I have college classes scheduled at the time (which I did) and provide them with a copy of my driver's license and university ID (I photocopied and faxed them), and that was good enough... They weren't really strict about it.


  2. Did you read the summons?  Mind always had a hardship on the back or near the bottom somewhere.  There should be a number to call and explain your situation, and they will let you out this time.

  3. call the jury commissioner and request an extension - usually up to a year.  Don't stress about it.

  4. usually if you go talk to the judge and explain things they will exempt you, but if you dont and just leave, when they catch up to you, your butt will go to jail.  so I would go talk to the judge.
