Question:

Jury Duty in New York?

I got a letter in the mail yesterday for Jury Duty. It says "Juror Subpoena Failure To Respond". I was given two notices prior but I completely forgot to send them in because of things happening at the time. Now I was wondering, will there be a fine for this? I am going on Monday. It says that the process will take 15 minutes but is that true? And how long does Jury Duty last?

  1. They're probably won't be a fine, but I'd respond to this one! Is this a notice to actually show up or just a request for info that you are on the list and might be called? If you have to show up, then show up!

The timing could vary widely. Sometimes you just have to call in the night before and a message tells you if you have to show up. This could go on for days before you are either excused or told to come in. If you have to go in, it might take several days. If you get on a jury, it could be a week or more.

  2. don't miss it. It's the law

  3. You aren't going in for Jury Duty.  You are going in to face the judge as to why you were a no show for jury duty.

Just tell him what you said here.  He will set you up with another date to show up.  You have to serve or be excused.  Just show up when he gives you the next date.
