Question:

Jury Service distance?

by  |  earlier

I have received a letter saying that I can be called up for Jury Service this year. This is fine, but it only applies to Northern Ireland courts and I'm studying for a PhD in Edinburgh! Consequently, I will spend 90%+ of the year in Scotland. Is this distance good enough reason to be excused? Or will I have to say that I cannot attend for each summons I may receive?

  1. Any escuse will get you out of it, study the case well on the media and it will eliminate you as a possible jury candidate.

You can tell them your cat has a cold. LOL!

Or you can answer every question they as you with, I take the 5th! HAHA!

  2. Just contact the Court Office on the letter & explain.  They're not beyond reason & they'll tell you.

  3. If you are summonsed then say you are in Edinburgh. You may not get summonsed for years!
