send them a letter . i had the same problem and i had to get a letter witnessed by a notary public sent to the court clerk before they would excuse me

Tell them you'll be happy to serve on the jury, but you'll need help with transportation, then tell them where you are.  You'll almost certainly be excused.  If you're in the military, tell them you need for them to get you permission to abandon your post.
