Jury duty HELP?

can i postpone the day they expect me to participate ? I'm a full time college student and theres a health emergency.

Write down on the questionnaire "I can spot a guilty person, just like THAT!"

They won't call you for jury duty.

Yes. I live in California and I had jury duty two weeks ago and on the day I had to go I called early morning and I postponed it. I didn't need a excuse or anything they just said ok. Then they told me that I needed to be available for the following week to serve so I called every night of the week and I got excused, so I never had to show up.

New York allows you to postpone the date of your service to any date (you can choose the one you want) up to 6 months in the future. However, you can only postpone your service once, so if you've already done that, you have to report for service on the date of your form. (Once you report, you can explain the the judge your circumstances that he or she may grant you an additional postponement at their discretion.)

Call the telephone number on your Jury Summons.  Tell them the problems you are having and ask them to postpone.  I have had them postpone for me by just asking becase I was sick with the flu.  If I remember I got something like 8 week postponement.

I've done it in Louisiana - had a trip planned with no-refund tickets already purchased.  I asked to be put in another pool to avoid the specific days of my trip.  The clerk of court doesn't want to punish folks who have legit issues with a specific date of service.  That kind of request never makes it to a judge.  But if you just don't show up... THAT brings you before a judge in a position where you don't want to be.
