I was summoned for Jury duty and was told just to send the paperwork back before march 3rd, and it's been in the mail for 2 days already so it's on its way. Now, do I just wait for a day to show up ( i assume that's when EVERYONE shows up) and i have to dress up that day? What about a nice short sleeve shirt and black slacks with black dressy shoes but not Fancy?

I am 4 months pregnant so my wardrobe is limited

  1. that outfit will be fine.  as long as it looks fairly nice, business casual is likely the best way to put it, you will be fine.  remember that the trial you may be involved in is very very serious for those involved.

when i had jury duty people generally dressed fairly nicely, besides the guy who came in wearing army fatigues (he didnt get selected on any juries)

  2. There is no requirement to "dress up".  You just need to be reasonable.  You would only get into trouble if you dressed in such a way as to be disrespectful, in which case you could be considered in "contempt of court".  That would be something drastic  like coming in in a bathing suit, or wearing a T-shirt with an obscene saying, or something along those lines.  Otherwise, there is really no special requirement.  I was on a jury a while back and most of my fellow jurors were wearing jeans and T-shirts.  (Of course, this is in California, perhaps more "laid back" than some other states.)

  3. You don't have to dress up unless you want to  be picked.  I wore jeans and t-shirt when i was summoned and i was never picked and only had to be there for a few minutes each day - AND STILL GOT PAID!

  4. Last time a friend was called in for jury duty, she spoke with some of the officials there - they get people dressed in old clothes, spouting racial and other slurs, making Hitler salutes - and it does not stop them from being called to a jury.

Being in certain occupations (e.g. social worker) will get an automatic challenge from the prosecution, tho they can only challenge a set number of times.
