Will serving on a jury make me ineligible for unemployment? I am already receiving benefits and I am in California. I have tried to get through to EDD but have had no luck. Thanks for your help.

  1. No, not at all.  In fact, the Unemployment Agency to which you report, may request the pay you rececive from serving on the jury.  This will augment the payment they normally give you so that they--in essence--save a few dollars.

If you're selected, you have to serve; it's the law. [Unless you have some other documented situation that negatively impacts your being there.]

  2. Go ahead and serve Cat, it'll open YOUR EYES, tell Your U.C. office what your going to make and You feel obliged to serve, OR, call the clerk of courts and ask if serving will mess up your benefits and if you can be excused for that reason.  Smile when You talk on the phone.
