Question:

Jury duty- any ideas?

So I got my first summons to jury duty in the mail yesterday. It is on March 3rd. Aside from saying where to park, etc., the form says to show up at "Room 202", at the courthouse. So, my question is- What do I do? Is the room a juror deliberation room? I am just confused, and the woman at the courthouse was very unclear.

  1. It's probably a large room on the 2nd floor. All of the potential jurors will meet there, and someone will guide you through the rest. Don't worry about not knowing where to go. There are undoubtedly 50, 100, (maybe more) people in your same boat. No one knows where to go, and the court house employees know that. They will be more than happy to guide you in the right direction, if there aren't signs already posted to help you out.

  2. You will sit in a room with a bunch of people.  A few people will be called into a seperate room where they will answer questions from the attorneys and either be selected or rejected.  If you are rejected, you go back into the room where you started.  The vast majority of people never make it out of the first room.  Take a good book.  Depending on your jursidiction, you just have to put in one day (if you are not selected), others have you for up to 2 weeks and you have to call everyday to see if they need you to report.  THey will tell you what they expect from you when you get there.

  3. It's a big old room where all the jurors go and wait for the court to send you to whatever court room they want you in. I don't know how they decide who goes where, but just follow their instructions. You may be lucky and not have to go anywhere, but home after a while.

  4. My wife went through it a couple of weeks ago.  She said it was no big deal, and I think she actually enjoyed it.  (It was a OVI case; defendant found not guilty)

  5. You'll go into a jury selection room. You'll be given instructions on what to expect as a juror and how a juror is expected to act.

Then you wait until summoned by a judge. If the cases before the court that day require a jury, then you will go through a jury selection process.

If not, then you will be dismissed.

  6. They will give you instruction on everything you need to do IF YOUR SELECTED. you may be sitting in a room for 5hrs and then told " thank you and we'll see you again in three years"

    Bring something to read.
