Question:

Jury duty for a different county?

My driver's license is from county A. I got a summons from county B. I go to college and live in an apartment in county B, but will be graduating in a year and moving back to county A. I do not understand how county B obtained my information, because I never signed up to vote in county B. If I got a summons in county A, I would feel more obligated to show up for jury duty, because of my driver's license. However, I should not be registered as a voter so how can the court call me for jury duty? Thanks.

I was on vacation and found a summons in my mail in county B. I missed the jury date while away.

  1. Different counties countries cities use different methods to select prospective jurors.

Where you receive mail, work, go to school, pay taxes, register for something, pay bills, have a residence.

The issue should be whether you have an obligation to be a citizen, or do civic responsiblities wherever you are.  Contact the court that issued the jury summons.  Explain that you did not get your mail while you were on vacation, that you are not a permanent resident of the county, find out what your legal obligations are, get it settled.  Do not ignore this.  There could be a warrant out for your arrest right now for ignoring the jury summons while it sat in your mail waiting for you to return from vacation.
