  1. If you use your privileges of voting and/or driving a car, then jury duty is part of your responsibility for those privileges.

No one "wants" to go to jury duty, but it is our duty as an American citizen.

In my area,if you don't show up for jury duty, they issue a bench warrant for your arrest,no questions asked.

Jury duty isn't that bad,you usually sit there all day waiting for a case. Just go,put your time in and then you are off the hook for a while.

And using the I am a racist ploy doesn't work with any judge I know. They have heard it a million times. All that excuse does is tick off the judge which isn't a good thing if you ever find yourself standing in front of him/her someday as a defendant.

  2. Ring them and let them know your at a very important stage of your career and can't afford to miss out on a few days. Alternatively, when they're choosing jurors make it very clear you have prejudice (eg. want revenge for a similar crime committed to you, or racist like someone pointed out). It is an offence to skip jury duty, but it is easy to get out of it.

  3. I am pretty sure you get arrested if you do not show up.  It is not an opinion.

  4. your supposed to go but all you have to do is call and sound racist and the will never let you do, just ask questions like what color is he/she, is he black? he is guilty and your home free

you wont get arrested either i bailed before nothin happened it is possible that the letter did not come in the mail right?

  5. Wriggle out of it, it's not that hard, and just hope that if the day never comes that you have to face a court, and the people on the jury are so busy planning to get out of their responsibility that they say 'guilty' so they can get home early.

  6. Don't throw it away, you could be arrested--probably not the first time but it could happen.  You usually have the option of deferring your duty if you have a valid reason but I'm pretty sure that just not wanting to go is not a valid reason.  Typically, if you actually make it to the selection phase of the duty and you are an a**hole, it's not likely you'll be selected.

Doesn't sound like you have much to worry about if you really don't want to do it.

  7. They allow you one postponement.  I did it before. But the second time I was called for jury duty I had to go.

  8. One of the best things you can do is serve jury duty. Yes it can be a real pain, but it's a vital part of the justice system, people should be proud to serve. It's easy, and most of the time you will not be selected to serve.

It varies a lot by location, some places will hold you in contempt for not serving.

There's an old expression, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Learn about Jury Nullification. It is not the juror's job to determine the law, it is explicitly the juror's to determine guilt or innocence.

"I consider trial by jury as the only anchor ever yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution." - Thomas Jefferson

  9. Don't worry.  Just show up.  They will tell you what to do.  Odds are you will not be selected for a jury.  You do need to go.  It is a Citizen's obligation.
