  1. I had jury duty yesterday.  I wore jeans and a t-shirt and running shoes.  I brought my books from school and I was out by noon.  They put us all in a big room then they gave us a speech about what was going to happen and let us watch a movie about the types of juries.  They called people up in groups that were chosen to be examined for juries.  I was not selected so, I got to go.  It was kind of boring, but not that big of a deal.

  2. In my case two times, I get on the website to see if I have to go in. Both times, I went through the week without going in. Jury duty done for a year (keep the paperwork).

If you do have to go in, you probably won't be appointed to the jury, since they have about sixty people and twelve to twenty-four seats.

Dress casually, but presentable. Judges hate people looking like a slob- no tanktops, huaraches, etc. A sleeved shirt that covers the stomach, becent

  3. You didn't say where you were so this is a tougher call than it might have been.

Dress code is usually "wear what you might wear to school or work" (unless you are a hooker.)

How long it lasts depends on whether you are in a petit jury pool or a grand jury, and also depends on your county or parish rules on the subject.

These days, there will either be a booklet, a slide show, or a short video to orient you at the beginning of the day.

What to expect?  EITHER... boredom or a chance to see the goings-on of a trial without being the "guest of (dis)honor."

  4. In most cities it is usually "one day, one trial"  which means you will either be there the whole day or be selected for one trial.  Generally, you start out by sitting in this big room with everyone else called to jury duty that day.  Eventually, you may get called to be in a jury pool.  You will go to a courtroom and be questioned for selection to a jury.  If you get selected for a jury, that trial may be more than one day.  if you do not get selected for a jury you will go back down to the big waiting room.  You may possibly get called again to a jury pool.  At the end of the day you will be sent home.  All this depends on how many trials there are in the court house on that day.  Sometimes you just sit there all day and never get called once.  Sometimes you get called over and over and never get picked to be on a jury.  Don't try to get out of being selected.  The judge and lawyers will humiliate you in front of everyone else.  Just be honest.

  5. In my state it's a one day or one trial set-up.  If you are selected to sit, then you are committed for the duration of that trial.  If you are not selected you just serve for that day, sometimes through multiple voir dire preceedings.

Dress is business or business casual.

And don't worry about what to do as you will be given plenty of instructions.

And, Greg, it's a great way to meet people so look nice.

  6. Usually no dress code per se, but it is appropriate to dress nicely for the occasion.  I would say business casual would be perfect.....Dress shirt dress pants dress shoes for either male/female.

  7. If you dress in old rotten smelly clothes and drool openly- they usually release you right away :)

  8. It depends if you are on a long case, but the judge will ask you if you can spare the time. There is no formal dress code, but one should be reasonably dressed,no bikinis or shoe less.On average if you are not on a long case you will be done in a week.In some courts you don't even have to come in, but call everyday to see if you are needed. It's n interesting experience,so enjoy it.
