  1. I cannot answer specifically about the court that you are going to but the procedures are somewhat similar in all jurisdictions.

Bring a book to read. it is quite possible that you will be siting in a welcoming juror room for some times. Dress neatly, no shorts or sayings om your shirt that will antagonize anyone.

You may be sent home after a few days and find that you were not called for anything.

If you are called to serve you will first be questioned by the attorneys on both sides to see that you are prejudiced in any way against either side and that you can give an honest opinion. The first person selected to be a juror will get the position of foreman.

Trials may end very quickly. Sometimes a jury will be dismissed in civil trials without doing anything because a  settlement was reached. Some trials go on for weeks or even months.

You will get paid a nominal sum for each day as well as transportation costs. You will not get rich.

Trials will often not start on time.

    Good luck.

  2. in most cases one day. it may be two hours it maybe the whole day. In a few cases you may have to return. You dont have to do anything. Just show up, and they will tell you if they will use you. there will be more than one trial, and they will need a jury on each. the attorneys and DA will ask questions.

Say its a trial for some guy that got arrested for DWI. Well they may ask if anyone on jury duty ever got arrested for that. You say yes, then the DA or the other attorneys say we dont want them then your asked to leave the room. They may ask you to wait for the next trail or they may send you home. If your a felon or have any type mental disability you'll be dismissed at once, you only need tell the receptionist / clerk and they will dismiss you. Its not that big a deal.Mostly you got the summons now you just need to show up.

Those that said Pay attention are pretty correct: the JUDGE is not above chewing your @ss out if, they have to repaet stuff. and you can take notes in some cases so its a good idea to take something to write with and on . and a book to read while waitting between cases to be selected.

Rememeber YOU have a summons. You still have not been selected to be on the jury. Thats what they will decide when you go in.

  3. Cool! You get to see how the justice works (or doesn't work)

It'll change how you view the television program 'Law and Order'.

  4. just show up, wear what you normally do - you'll be in a room

w/lots of people & generally, an atty will ask the crowd "anyone have a reason why they can't be here today..'

some will have medical issues- i said i was busy w/work cause didn't want to serve- but they chose me anyway. turned out to be interesting.

problem is if there are multi cases, you might have to sit around for few hrs b-4 selection starts

  5. We have no idea if you have been called for Grand Jury, or Federal Jury, or County Jury, or City Jury. They are all a bit different.

Let's exclude Grand Jury from this mix.

You will be sitting with a whole lot of other people. The judge will first ask for any legitimate excuses. Raise your hand if you have one and the judge will call you up one by one to hear them. Do NOT give any lame excuse to the judge. He would dismiss you!

Next, all remaining names will go into a "pot" and randomly selected to sit in the jury box for questioning by both attorneys. If you are called, take your place in the jury box. Based on your answers to both lawyer's (DA for the State and Defense Attorney for the accused) questions, you will either be dismissed or you will be selected to "sit" on the jury.

  6. When i served, we were told to report each day for a week.  those who were not selected for juries on thew first day were sent home and told to come back the next day.  I was selected for a jury.

We were told not to discuss anything we heard with anyone, not even each other.  We were not sequestered, so at the end of each day we went home and returned the next day.

We sat and listened to the testimony of a trial, this trial was for a man accused of falsifying a contract and taking a building away from a group of senior citizens.  After hearing testimony for two days, the trial ended when the man changed his plea to guilty.  if this had not happened, we would have had to listen to all the testimony, and then decide whether the man was proven guilty or not.

I found the process to be very interesting.  I felt good to be able to be a part of the process and to see the events from the inside.   If called again, i will serve without hesitation.

  7. Just act like reg freek. Show u r very intrested doing it. But as seen u see defenndet if he or she like able just say they r not guilty and same thing u did,t like be hering what its about then

u r very sure he did it. That way either defece or prosicuter not like u and they goin send home. Makesure u must go and u r lots of free time nothing to do jury duty is for you.

  8. There is no way to tell how long it will last.  Just sit quiet and do as you are told.  Be sure to ask if you have any questions.

  9. you basicaly sit and wait get interviewed and then sit and wait sit and wait sit and wait somemore.  That is what your day will be like long and boring.  If you get picked you will stay for the trial but you may not then you get to go home and not go back

  10. The last part of your question is the hardest to answer.

In most states, if you are not selected to serve in a jury, you are sent home at the end of the day and you are all done untill the next time you are called, again, for jury duty.  It may not happen, again for months or even years.

However, if you ARE selected to serve on a jury, you are expected to serve the entire length of the trial.  Some jury trials only last for a few hours.  Once the trial is done, you are sent home and you are done untill the next time you are called.   SOME trials last for months, depending on the complexity and seriousness of the case.  Think of the O.J. Simpson murder trial.  THOSE jurors had to serve from the beginning to the end.

  11. You are 20?

And this is how you type?

I'm sorry but it seems that the English language has become lost.

I rather doubt you will be selected for the jury, so don't worry.

  12. The main thing you have to do is LISTEN TO THE JUDGE!!!!!!  I've been on jury duty twice and had a blast both times.  How long you'll be there depends on what, if any, case you get assigned to.  Listen very carefully when the judge talks, he'll be giving you directions and will tell you what to take into consideration when making a decision.  Half the jury didn't listen one of the times the judge was talking and we all had to file back out into the courtroom and have him repeat what he had just said about 20 minutes before.  The judge was not happy.  Don't be afraid to speak your mind when in deliberation, that's what you are there for, a lot of people will just go with the flow of the room and agree with the majority, that's how you get these ridiculous verdicts on occasion.  Remember the lady that sued McDonald's because she burned herself with hot coffee in her car, and WON?  Nothing wrong with the cup, she was just an idiot who spilled coffee on herself.

  13. Just sit there and follow instructions and you BETTER be paying attention!
