Question:

Jury summons for a deceased person?

A county jury summons was sent to my house today. However it was sent to my grandmother who died two years ago. What is the proper way to handle this. Is just sending back the questionnaire with the word deceased on it enough? Or should a phone call be made to the county clerk?

This is in Middlesex County, New Jersey.

  1. call and follow up with a letter and a copy of the death certificate, or you will be going through this again.

  2. you could include either a copy of death cert or a copy of obituary it wold give proof to them

  3. i would make a call because for all they know you are just writing deceased on it to get out of the jury duty i would make a call to the countys office to ask them what you should do or include a copy of the obituary or something as proof.

  4. Depending on the court, you could just call the clerk or the judge. It's not the first time they have dealt with something like this, it won't be the last.

  5. Call the county clerk's office and let them know.  They will let you know what needs to be done from there.

  6. just shows you how the courts dont see you as a human bieng just an american
