  1. 13)

    x^2 - 8x + 16 = (x - 4)^2 = 0, so this equation has one repeated root.

    14)

    5x^2 + 42 = 0

    x^2 = -42/5

x = +/- i*sqrt(42/5), so this equation has two complex (specifically, imaginary) roots.

    15)

    2x^2 - 9x + 8 = 0

    x = (9 +/- sqrt(81 - 4*2*8))/4 = (9 +/- sqrt(17))/4, so this equation has two real irrational roots.

    16)

The graph of a quadratic equation is called a PARABOLA.

    17)

    The complex conjugate of a + bi is a - bi, so the complex conjugate of 7 - 3i is 7 - (-3)i = 7 + 3i.

    Answers:

    One repeated root

    Two complex roots

    Two real irrational roots

    Parabola

    7 + 3i

  2. Actually, you have 5 questions listed, not 4.  Strike one!

Do you know what the discriminant is ?  If you do, then what is your problem in answering the first three questions ?  Do you just want someone to do your work ?  No way!  Read about the quadratic formula and the discriminant in your textbook.  Ask your teacher for help, but ask specific questions.  If you need help with radicals, ask about that.  If you don't understand all these terms, then look them up and ask questions.

The graph of a quadratic equation is called a parabola.  Do you know how to graph a parabola ?  Do you know what the vertex of a parabola  is ?  Do you know how to tell which way the parabola opens ?

Complex conjugates are complex.  Do you know about imaginary numbers ?  Do you know what (a + bi) is ?

Ask specific questions about your work/problems and maybe you will get the help you need and deserve.
