Just Cause boss blames lack of focus on games for Xbox One unveiling disappointment – Gaming news
Avalanche Studios founder Christofer Sundberg believes that the negative reaction of gaming community to the unveiling of Microsoft’s next-generation console Xbox One was due to the focus on the console instead of the games during the unveiling event.
During an interview with VideoGamer, the Just Cause boss said that he did not find the disappointment of the fans following the unveiling of the much-awaited and long-overdue console surprising at all, as the company ended up highlighting the entertainment
capabilities of the new hardware instead of the games, which the gamers are clearly more interested in.
“I understand the disappointment of many fans,” said Sundberg, “but I am confident their disappointment is in the lack of focus on games during the reveal, rather than in the console.”
During the unveiling of its new console, Microsoft focused more on entertainment and television than game.
This did not go down too well with the gamers, who were expecting to get treated to visually-stunning gamers during the unveiling event.
Despite Microsoft’s repeated pledges that it will reveal 15 Xbox One exclusive at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which is scheduled to get underway at Los Angeles on June 10, the fans are continuing to hold a negative opinion about the
console that they had huge expectations from.
Sundberg hoped to see Microsoft putting more focus on the games being developed for the new console instead of focusing on its television and entertainment features.
The Avalanche Studios founder went on to reveal that 2013 E3 will be the biggest event for his studio since 2005, in which the studio showed-off Just Cause.
Sharing his team’s take on Microsoft’s next-generation console, Sundberg said that the studio’s “impressions from first sight until the recent public reveal have been positive.”
According to the Avalanche Studios founder, the real console war will only kick-off after Microsoft is done addressing and clearing issues such as second-hand sales and always-on requirement for the Xbox One during the company’s 2012 E3 press conference.
Xbox One is Microsoft’s response to Nintendo’s Wii U, which was launched in the final quarter of 2012, and Sony’s PlayStation 4, which is slated for a Winter 2013 release.
