Just Found Out About A Long Lost Aunt!!!!!!?

I elaborated a bit in an answer to someone, but my mom and I recently found out she has a half sister my grandmother relinquished back in the early sixties. I am curious about how to go about searching for her. Grandma refuses to give any info about. Her exact response: "I didn't want it then....why should I want it in my life now?"

How can I search with little to no info? Would have been around 1963-1965 in Seattle area. Can it be possible?

  1. Sounds like the pregnancy/birth was very traumatic for Grandma, could she have been raped? Did the father abandon her because of the baby? Many contributing factors. If she doesn't want you know, you should give her space and time.

  2. Grandma may not want anything to do with it, and that is her right.  But this is your relative too, and your mother's and the rest of the extended family's!  and you have every right to know your family.  Who knows, the adoptee may be searching too, there are alot of us searching.

A birthdate and place probably the very least you would need but you could search the online registries for the years you mention and see what you come up with.   You mother could also register with the State Reunion Registry as a sibling to the adoptee.

  3. If you know where she was born (name of the hospital) there are ways of finding out. With some research you can find out just about anything. I found my friends birthmom that way. Do a search for babies adopted in 19?? at ??? hospital of ?? State.

  4. Do you know what her name could be? Search for it in myspace or whitepages.com

Tell your grandma to quit being selfish and to give u her info.  You are going to look for her either way, and if she gives you clues, it will be easier for you.

  5. What are the laws about searching in Oregon?  In my state I was allowed to search for parents, siblings, and grandparents...and any of those people could have legally searched for me.  It also did not matter what others did or did not consent to.  For instance, I could search for a siblings even if the parents did not consent.

  6. oh boy, this sounds rough. she is harboring some serious hurt about this. my advice is try to find a way around her. if she is using terms like "it" thats not a good sign. something really bad happened with/during this pregnancy.

so, no birthday, place of birth, name, hospital....this could be hard. i will have to think about this one. in the mean time, try to back off grandma, i have a really bad feeling about her response. there has to be a way to get info without badgering her for it.

    think, think, think.......

if i think of something i will edit or email you

    good luck
