  1. It all depends on the source and your TV - In general, I doubt you can see the difference without some test material (otherwise, you would not be asking..).

    Use 1080i if your TV does a better deinterlacing job than your source.

    Use 720p if the source does a better job than the TV.

    At the end of the day, it is what YOU can see that matters, not what other people tell you.


  2. Please explain your question more thourouly.

    All HDMI cables are 480i to 1080p.

    EDIT: Now that your question has been updated, 720p and 1080i have their different uses. any "p" resolution is better for slower-moving things, like movies for  example, while "i" resolutions are better for fast motion, like sports. For most TV, i prefer 1080i for the clarity, even if the motion seems a little weirder than 720p.
