I am almost positive I will be offered a position as a library teacher at a public school starting september 3rd. However, I have a pre-planned vacation to south america for a wedding for September 13-19 and would need this week off. This trip was planned a few months ago and was very expensive. Do you think the principal will let me to take this time off unpaid? I am a last minute hire and would not have planned this trip had I known I would embark on a last minute career-change and be teaching this fall.

  1. If you talk to the principal I'm sure you will then have to write a note or call the Asst. Supt of Personnel.  They deal with personal days.  I know teachers who wanted to take a honeymoon mid-year and they said no.  They called in sick everyday.

It is tough since it is one of the first few weeks of school.

  2. I doubt it, but I would talk to the principal before you start.
