And now I am asked to suggest an answer to "What is the view of society afforded by this work?" Can anyone simplify this question, or otherwise help me to answer this?

Thanks

  1. The question is fairly straight-forward.  It simply wants to know:  What is society like in the novel?

Here are some questions you might answer in thinking about how to answer:

How do people treat each other in the novel?

What kind of relationship do men and women have in the novel?

What goals do most people have in the novel?

What kind of government or social organizations are shown in the novel?

Does it help the characters, or make things harder?

Does the author think that society is funny?  Is society made fun of? Is it treated a a tragedy?
