Just a few questions regarding shows?

Ok so i am wondering for my first question:

What tack is required for pole bending and barrel racing walk/trot class? ( i am asking about what the horse needs to wear, not me)

Also what kind of tack do you have to use for english walk/trot classes?

Last question i am going to be in a costume class show and have an idea that my horse will be a rainbow and I will be a pot of gold.

Any ideas of how to turn my appy into a rainbow?

thank you all very much!!

  1. for the English one you will need the basic saddle and bridle girth saddle pad etc. But if you want to be going father for dressage you might want a martingale (standing or running) and double reins.

For your Appy turning into a rainbow you could dye its mane for one thing. You could try using kool-aid, it comes out easily

For the western yes you do need another bit. For western you have a really harsh bit because you only touch the reins lightly. You wil also probably want to invest in a western bridle

    hope that helps :)

  2. It all depends on the level of show that you are referring to on how particular they are.  I'm sure that you have a show flier with a phone number or some way of checking with the show manager on your questions so that you will know for sure on this particular show.  Just generally, for barrels and poles one would use a barrel racing saddle, but a general western saddle will do ok.  A good pad, a bridle with whatever bit you are used to using and a curb chain.  Endless reins are easier to keep track of when racing and a riding crop with a loop on the end to hang over your saddle horn for the trip back to the finish line.  I don't know your horse, so if he has a habit of overreaching when running fast, I would also put overreach boots on him, and skid boots as well, otherwise, he may stop once or twice for you while running full tilt, and after burning himself a couple of times, he isn't going to be so willing to stop for you.  I really don't think that there are bit requirements when it comes to gaming.  You should wear either a western hat or in some shows, they don't even care if  you wear a ball cap.

On the English Walk/Trot classes, you and your horse would wear the same as in any English class.  You say that you already have a saddle and you must have a bridle with a snaffle that you are riding in already and also a plain pad. Also, an appropriate hat/boots/pants/shirt/jacket and braid the mane.

The hair spray that you buy from drugstores, the kind that people dye their hair with and it washes out would be fine for your horse, just put patches on the horse's eyes when you are spraying that side, so none of it gets in his eyes. It comes in all of the wild colors.  You can also get this stuff with glitter already in it...plus, you could probably paint yourself all over in the same stuff, only gold color and add lots of extra gold glitter (Just keep it out of your face, maybe wear a gold mask or something)  Most important thing is to have fun.  Keep your preparation for your costume simple and fast, as you will have to do it between classes.

  3. Well for the Pole Bending/Barrel Racing classes I would think you could just use a basic western saddle/bit and bridle. For the English class you can use just a basic all purpose/jumping/close contact saddle. Judges like to see horses in a basic snaffle bit, it shows the horse has a soft mouth, and listens well.

As for turning your horse into a rainbow you could try the Twinkle products. http://www.twinkleglitter.com/

or maybe if your horse doesn'tt have sensitive skin you could try some non toxic finger paints. Your horse will look very cute as a rainbow. :)

  4. as far as i know.. you have to have a western bit, unless your horse is younger than five.

tack wise for barrel racing and pole bending, you need western saddle. western bit. and im pretty sure connected reins. like barrel reins

id also reccomend a breast collar.. unless its JUST walk/trot

turning ur appy into a rainbow. you can make it out of fabric, or paint her and go bareback.

english. you can use ur snaffle, idk if you can use your dressage saddle. depends on the show.

  5. Tack requirements for Western speed events and English equitation-type classes are very nearly at opposite ends of the spectrum.  Barrels and Poles require a specific type of Western saddle with a tall slender horn, high cantle, and high pommel, and narrow stirrups.  The Western-style bridle is usually a shanked bit and often a combined bit with a hackamore noseband.  Depending on the horse, an over-under and spurs are useful.

A walk/trot class will require a general purpose English saddle, English Bridle, and typically a snaffle bit.

  6. For western, you need a western saddle (no need for a fancy one if you are just going to a local show), a western headstall--for barrels & poles, cotton gaming reins are nice, but you could also just use the joined reins off your english bridle if you dont want to spend the money....for the walk/jog class most judges want a shank bit (like a tom thumb...) but you can ask your judge what his/her preference is.. you will also need split reins for walk/jog....you may want boots for the speed events..but they are definitely not a nessecity if you are just going in a few events for fun... you can barrel race & pole-bend in an english snaffle if your horse is responsive to it...otherwise you can just keep with tom thumb in for speed events for the time being....

For english, you'll want an english saddle, an english bridle (snaffle bit is totally fine!) a white pad, and leather joined reins....thats all...your dressage saddle may be a bit off for a walk/jog class..but im guessing that you are going to a local fair or something? and in this case it wont really matter much...

  7. western gear. western saddle, speed bridle, i like matha josey's "million dollar bit"   you'll probably want a noseband and tie down to

english---- english tack, english saddle, bridle, noseband, a simple snaffle should do

AWESOME IDEA FOR COSTUME!!!!!!    or you could be a leprechan, that would be cool to, unfortunately idk how to make  your horse into a rainbow, i'm sure you'll think of something

    good luck

  8. I'mm anEnglishh rider, i have been riding since i was three and for english classes you need a saddle, girth, white saddle pad, abridlee with bit, a show shirt and jacket, white, tan orbeigee riding pants, riding boots, a martingale if you horse keeps its head in the air and you must properlybraidd your horses mane.

  9. Quastion one: you are required to have gameing reins ( No split reins), and i believe a chin strap as well. also I dont know if you ment teh walk trot class to be sepereat from the barrel raceing. I would also getting Boots for your horse to help protect him/her. A barrel raceing saddle isnt required but it would eb smart considering they help you stay in teh saddle better.

Question Two: a english saddle, english pad, english bridle(make sure you have a nose band as well) usualy a snaffle bit.

There is this kind of spray paint you can get at like a farm store ive seen them around here atleast.
