How long is it until a new born goes up a size in clothing? Say if bub was a 000 at birth is it only a matter of weeks or more like months before he will be 00?

I'm just curious because i dont want to buy too many clothes in case he doesnt get to wear them lol

  1. It really depends on the child. My son is almost 13months and he is still in 00. He was prem and was in 00000 when he was born, I know some children who skip whole sizes in their growth spurts.

  2. depends on how big bub is when there born my little ones a month old and still in 4 zeros but depending on the brand to some are made smaller than others i didnt get many 4 zeros i have mainly 3 zeros i just have to do more washing!

  3. They don't stay in one size to long until they are about 18 months.

  4. hey... well my son was 8lb 2oz at birth and about 2 weeks after he had grown out of newborn... most newborn clothes are made big anyway, what i did, is when i had my son, i took one 'tiny baby' romper in, one 0-3 months romper and 4 or 5 newborn ones... a 'newborn' baby is anything between 6lb and 10lb ish, any bigger n the baby would need 0-3months clothes.

  5. My baby was 7 /7 when she was born (3.4 kg) and many of the 000 were a little to big for her, but she was still able to wear them. She is nearly three months now and just moving into 00, and I think she is quite normal in size comparing to other babies in my mothers group.

Don't go too crazy, but make sure you have a fair bit it as babies vomit, wee and poo through their outfits fairly quickly and you don't want to be washing all day! And be realistic - little outfits that look great will quickly be replaced by all in ones for practicality. Stretchy stuff is great as it stretches with your baby.

  6. My son wore 0000 at birth but they were too big for him and he went into 000 at 4 weeks and 3 days old in the all in ones

He is now 6 weeks and 2 days old and in the 000 and they are still very roomy on him lol but ihad to move up size as he grew so much in length lol

He can fit into 4 of his 0000 all in one suits as the brand is bigger than others

Oh and all of his 2 piece sets in 0000 are still fitting and some he is waiting to grow into lol

I have a few pairs of 2 piece sets that are too big in the 0000

  7. You have good instincts about what to buy.  ;)  In the US, clothing sizes are in 3 month increments until the baby is about 12 months old.  My daughter only stayed in 0-3 month clothes until she was about a month old.  (She was born at 9 lb, 7 oz)  Those didn't get worn for long!  In 3-6 month clothes, she lasted until 4 months old.  In 6-9 month clothes, I think we made it till about 8 months old, and then she was in 12 month clothes until she actually was 18 months old.

My son was more average in size, (born at 7 lb, 10 oz) but he also outgrew those "little" sizes very quickly.  I wouldn't buy too much in the smallest sizes unless I had a very small (under 6 1/2 lb) or premature baby.  You can always buy smaller clothes if you need them, even with our son we had to run to the store to get a couple of newborn size outfits because he was just swimming in the 0-3 month stuff. ;)

Good luck with your new addition to the family!
