Question:

Just a question about braces?

I'm not getting braces yet, but I really want them. (All my friends are about to get them off, and I haven't even gotten them yet.) I was just wondering how long it would take if I have a deep bite, and spacing in between all of my visible teeth. Then I have some crooked ones on the bottom, but no crowding. I was just wondering because I've seen friends that had pretty straight teeth have to get braces again, and wear them for 3+ years! I had a retainer before, and was supposed to wear it for 6 - 7 months, but ended up wearing it for 3 years, and then I lost it. If I go into 8th grade now, and got braces in 9th grade, about when would I be done with them? I haven't seen an orthodontist in a long time since my parents kind of avoid them, since I had a retainer and I lost it, they don't want to waste extra money on my teeth, but it's something I'm self conscious about.

  1. Thanks for answering my question about the drinking age.

It really depends on how deep the bite is my teeth wern't that bad and I have to wear them for 18 months, but my guess is if you got braces it would be about 3 years before they came off, about the time you graduate. But you said you wore a reatiner for 3 years so I'm assuming you had braces before, so you may only need braces for a year.

Edit: I'd try to just get another retainer, wait about a year and see if you still need braces.

  2. i would say you would have them for 2 years. I got mine in 9th, and am going into 11th grade. I should be getting them off in about 8 monthes.

    Good luck

  3. If you don't have any crowding it shouldn't be that complicated to get braces. You need to visit and orthodontist so he can examine you and decide what methods would be best and should be able to set up an appointment to start the process after conferring with your dentist as well, making it easier. After that you get spacers which are left in for about a week and then bands around your molars are fitted.. within a few weeks braces should be applied if everything goes as planned. If there is crowding though you'll have to get an expander which delays everything about a year! Make sure you get your teeth cleaned before the braces. If you don't break them or if appliances don't become loose you should only have them for about 2 to 2 and a half years, anything more than that seems ridiculous in your case. You'll be smiling beautifully for your senior year! :)

    Good Luck!
