The people are so friendly, we rented a bungalow in Co.Kerry, Kenmare and had a fantastic time, weather was a bit wet but the sun also shone. The food was lovely if you asked for a sandwich you got one two inches thick. It does not look so over populated as England is we would both like to live there and we have no Irish blood in us. Why do so many Irish people live in England ?

  1. Up until recently Eire was quagged down in poverty and other forms of institutionalised repression it is only since about '93 or '94 that it has opened itself up to the rest of the world and gained a reputation for good living and high standards.

  2. They moved to England when unemployment levels were at there highest in Ireland

  3. Why do so many people live in England? we have beautiful areas in England, you just dont live in one of them i take it.

  4. I am informed from by english born cousins that the pace of life is slower and more relaxed here. My cousin born and bred in england, is contemplating a move here because of the over crowding in england. I am seeing a worring trend in england and that is the anti polish feeling.

The polish are doing the same jobs that the irish did for england in the past, building etc, the irish builder has been replaced by the polish one. People in ireland can identify with the polish people, i myself work with polish people and find them very nice and professional in their work.

I was in a bar in england recently and nearly got myself into trouble defending a polish bar worker from what can only be said as racial abuse. It wasent to long ago that the irish people were treated the same and I made this point very clear.

I am glad you had a great holiday here and thak you for you visit. I have also had fond memories of holidays in your own country.

The largest ethnic group relocating to ireland is the british. 250K last year, you are most welcome and i hope you will return

  5. Frances glad you had a nice time here in Ireland. Sorry about the weather lol. The reason the Irish move to the UK is for work.

  6. Hello Frances,

A whole lot of Irish people and their offspring will easily be able to answer your qauery, including all my family. My Father was a first officer on Shell Oil Tanker shipe during World War Two, and remained in their employ until 1956, until his retirement after 33 years of hard work, and trying to out-run German submarines, one of these submarines actually sunk his ship in 1941, and fortunately he and ALL his crew managed to make it ashore to the New England Coast, where he wendered his way back to Galveston Texas, to be re-assigned another ship, and this took over a year, in which time he had developed a rather alarming Texan accent. All that aside now, he retired from Shell, at Ellesmere Port, and they fixed him and us, his family up, with accomodation in a town in trhe North of England, from where we went out into the world after a wonderful family home life, and our beginnings in the West of Ireland were never forgotten, as we still go home every year to visit those of our family that are still there, to talk over the good old days with them, and some of the old days were not so good, as a lot of the Irish folk in the 1950s and 1960s were so desperate for work, thet they, like us, moved to England, as well as other Countries in the World, to make a life forf their families as work was very very thin on the ground in Ireland.

It took over 800 years to get the english out of our Country, after they had exploited the Irish for everything they either had, or could work for, and a great depression began, so England needed workers so desperately after World War Two, to rebuild its own Country, that us Irish were a very definiye source of labour supply, to help to rebuild the Country for them, and the motorways had to be built too, so after all those years of oppression from them, going on the rampage through our own home Counties, the English actually Paid us Irish money, to re-build most of that which the Germans had laid to waste, with their Bombs etc., and we did such a good job, for them, that we became a part of the british constitution, and the butt of new jokes, but we didn't mind, as we knew our own, and we all stuck together and we still do..

Thank Heavens though, that the North of Ireland is now beginning to settle down at last, and peace, will soon be prevalent all over my beloved Country.

Irish food was always made and intended to fill you with an appetite satisfied, and making you look forward to your next "Sandwich", but that's another story or joke. Depends if your Irish..I do hope this answers your query. Good Luck Now.. Slainte'...Tony M
