  1. your just catching the edge of your blade. Simply keep yourself more balanced and kinda "equal" yourself out.

  2. What everyone said is good advice.  I'd just add to make sure that your arms are completely straight with your shoulders facing the way you want to be going.  If your shoulders are just even slightly off, you'll start turning either right or left and then lose your balance.

  3. Your catching your blade edge (either inside, or out) on the ice instead of the boot.

If your trying them for your first time, try to drag your foot, and then just fall down. This will help with position wile you are down low, and then work on getting up straight.

    Good Luck!

  4. You're just catching an edge rather than skating on a flat.  Use your arms and upper body to help control the direction you want to go.  If you want to go straight on a flat (both edges), keep your shoulders and hips aligned and arms out to check.  If you want to be on an edge, lean into the direction you want to go and your foot will be slightly tilted that direction because you're on an edge.  If you feel like you're going the wrong direction, press down on your arms for more control (checking).

For lunges, be sure to keep your free leg (the one you're dragging) behind you.  When it comes around and to the side, it tends to spin you around....and then we all know what happens after that!  Splat!  :)  Also use your arms for balance on lunges.

    Good luck!  :)
