Question:

Just because you believe Ali (RA) should have been the successor, does that have to mean you're Shia?

Just wondering. Having one view over another doesn't necessarily include you in another sect, does it?

  1. lol chill i am sunni, love you sis.

  2. you are mistaken, they believe that Ali is greater then Prophet,

They believe that all their imam's were infallible, they used to receive revelation like Prophets, they also believed they were running their unseen Imamat (secret order).

Shais consider Abu Bakr, Umar, Ayesha and hafsa (May Allah be pleased with them) as worst then kuffar.

  3. wat do u mean ali (as) should have been the successor

  4. well it really doesn't matter what you or any shia believes should have happened because there is nothing anyone can do about it and besides, he ended up being a caliph anyways... so i say accept what happened and stop cursing the prophets companions and move on and just be muslim.

I am way chill, and i know you are a sunni, but its just what i think :) when i wrote you i didn't mean you lol

  5. Muslim is best label.

However many labels you put before it is how much you distance yourself from the Ummah.

Sunni Muslim, is once removed. British Sunni Muslim is twice removed.

Subhanallah, some anti-Muslim Muslim's in the vicinity.

    Astaghfirullah.

    Muslim is my favourite name.

  6. Ali (r.a.) is indeed  a successor, but those who believes that Ali (r.a.) should had been the first Caliph, are shias, means they automatically consider themselves as shias because thats the thinking of Shias~!

  7. In a way yes and in another way no. It's like you've put the key in the lock but you haven't turned it yet.

  8. If you believe that Imam Ali (as) was the rightful successor, and you follow his teachings and the teachings of his family (which were passed down from the Holy Prophet (saw)) then you are a s**+'a.  If you believe that he was the appointed successor, but that is all, you are still a Sunni, but you have respect for Imam Ali (as).

I would like to take a moment to correct some wrong information from the poster Happily Happy.

    Happily, you are acutally mistaken.

In the Fiqh (teachings) of the s**+'a, we believe that no one is closer to Allah than the Prophet (saw).

I have heard of some people thinking that Angel Gabriel made a mistake and should have come to Imam Ali (as), this is a wrong idea.  I have heard of some people thinking that the Prophet (saw) made mistakes, this is also a wrong idea.  The Holy Prophet (saw), his Ahlul Bayt (as), and the Purified Imams (as) after them are all infalliable.  None of them ever made mistakes.  However, in terms of nearness to Allah, the Prophet (saw) is the highest.  Also, Imams (as) never recieved revelation.  Imam simply means "leader".  In fact there are two Prophets that are also Imams, Prophet Abraham (as) and Prophet Muhammad (saw)!  They hold both titles because they are not only Prophets of Allah, but they are guides for mankind.

Again, in response to s**+'as calling Abu Bakr, Umar, Ayesha, and Hafsa as Kafirs, there may be some misguided s**+'as out there saying things like that, but it is not the belief of s**+'as in general.  In fact, I have heard more Sunnis degrading the position and questioning the faith of the Imams (as), the Ahlul Bayt (as), and even the Prophet (saw) himself.

The difference between s**+'as and Sunnis is Fiqh.  The s**+'as rely on the family of the Prophet (saw) for guidance on how to be Muslims.  Sunnis rely on the friends and companions of the Prophet (saw).  That is the only difference!

  9. The man of knowledge is the one who recognizes that what is known is very little compared to what is not known, and as a result he considers himself ignorant, and accordingly he increases his efforts to know more by going out in search of knowledge.

  10. asalamualikum

believing Ali RA should take prophet SAWs place is what makes ppl shias...

Prophet Saw is Allah SWTs messenger....Prophet SAW is the last prophet and we r the ummah or prophet SAW...if u believe this then u r n always will be a sunni inshallah

    Allahhafiz

  11. Allah appointed AIi (as) as successor to Rasoolallah (saww)

NOBODY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Sunnis are challenging Allah

    ALLAH KNOWS EVERYTHING.

AbuBAKER was Ghasib ruler. AbuBaker WAS NOT successor to Muhammad (saww)

  12. But the problem is not just being a successor. They believe it was wrong for Abubakar (r.a) to be the successor and says many things to dis-grace a great companion to prove their point. (I don't know if all of them does this.)

But we in Ahlu-sunna don't fight for leadership once a leader is chosen through Shoora  (mutual consultation).  It is that Ahlu-Sunna respects all the companions of Allah's Prophet (pbuh). We don't disgrace any of them in order to raise some other's status. Allah has honored all of them and is pleased with all the Muhajiroon & Ansar.

  13. Sister,

The term "Shia" is short for "Shiat Ali" meaning: The party of Ali (Those in favor of Ali). So that's the whole point, anyone who is for Ali being the successor is automatically part of Shiat Ali.

It's not that it was a sect at first. Sunni and Shia are terms that were never used at the time of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The division began as a political one in which a group of people believed that the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) appointed Ali, his cousin and son-in-law, as the Caliph while another group of people believed that the prophet left the decision up to the Ummah (nation), as a whole, to vote for a Caliph.

This political division resulted in a religious division and overtime has spread out further and further away from one another, and resulted in even more branching out into different sects. So for any person who believed that Ali should have been the successor and not AbuBakr, Omar, or Uthman, than yes, it automatically puts you under the label of Shiat Ali (the party of Ali). Hope this answered your question =)

  14. It's a form of Tashayu'. It's what the Zaydee Shee'ah believe.

It's not permissible as it's against the Qadr of Allaah. And 'Alee radhiallaahu anhu had fought the people who had spread that kalaam around.

    Imaam adh-Dhahabee said in his Siyaar A’laam an-Nubalaa (5/390):

قال عيسى بن يونس جاءت الرافضة زيدا فقالوا تبرأ من أبي بكر وعمر حتى ننصرك قال بل أتولاهما قالوا إذا نرفضك فمن ثم قيل لهم الرافضة

((‘Eesaa bin Yoonus said: The Raafidah came to Zayd and said to him, “Free yourself from Abee Bakr and ‘Umar so that we can aid you” he said, “Rather I will give allegience to them” they said, “Then we reject you” so then it was said to them, “ar-Raafidah” (the rejectors)))

Ibn Hajar al-Haythamee mentioned in his Majma’ az-Zawaa’id (10/22) the narration of Ibn ‘Abbaas which was reported by at-Tabaraanee with a Hasan chain of narration that the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

يا علي سيكون في أمتي قوم ينتحلون حب أهل البيت، لهم نبز يسمون الرافضة، قاتلوهم فإنهم مشركون

((O ‘Alee, there will be in my Ummah a group of people who will go beyond bounds in love of my family, they will have an insulting name, they will be known as the Raafidah. Fight them, for they are polytheists))
