  1. Yes. If you have been employed and paid National Insurance contributions, you will be entitled to JSA for 26 weeks. This has nothing to do with your household income or savings or the amount you got in redundancy. It is based purely on NI contributions. If you are still out of work after 26 weeks you may qualify for income-based JSA, which would of course depend on your household income etc. I just mention this because there is often confusion about when income affects JSA. The answer is that there are two different types of JSA with different rules - but if they shouted about that more people would claim, I suppose!

  2. The best thing you can do is to get down the job centre and make an appointment, you will have to give them details of redundancy payments, employer details and all the rest of it. You may or may not get job seekers allowance, it depends on income, pension, if any etc:. One thing is for sure, if you don't try, you won't get. Even if you don't get any allowance, they will be paying your stamp for you.

I've been made redundant twice and never got a penny from them, but did get some re-training courses.

If you don't try, you don't get.

    Good luck.

  3. Sorry to read that.

From the day after you are actually made redundant, yes. There is a slight 2 day delay.

  4. There is not really enough information here. How long were you employed for.? Did you get a payout of more than £6,000 redundancy from your employer? Do you have dependants? (children in full time education) Do you live with a partner who works? You may qualify for JSA. There are two types. Contribution based, which is based on your national insurance contributions and income based which is means tested.  Have you checked your payment protection insurance information? You may qualify for a claim. You may not get maternity allowance, because you  must have been working for at least 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before you are due to give birth. You can claim income support when you get to your 29th week. If you are getting benefits, you may qualify for a sure start maternity grant which is a fixed amount of £500. You will need to contact your Job centre Plus for a claim pack and to get the information you need.

BTW. Congratulations on your pregnancy. :-)

  5. Yes you can claim and more like it you will get it, they will ask you how much redundancy money did you get? they might drag their feet if you've been paid a big amount, I have been their, goodluck
