Just been on the news, the UK Government say that Diesel is the cheapest in Western Europe----before tax!!?

And, dear Government, please tell me just how it helps me to know the price of something BEFORE you've slapped your money-making machine on it.

I've heard some gobbledygook from our wonderful Government before, but this now just smacks of absolute desperation to do anything to stop being slung out on their backsides by us, the electorate.

It's pointless talking about the price of pre tax diesel, as no one ever pays pre tax prices at the pump.

Two things spring to mind about diesel prices.

1/. In almost every other country in Europe diesel is cheaper than petrol. (not so in the UK).

2/. I can remember, in the beginning of the '90s, filling up with diesel BEFORE I left the UK. (certainly not now)
