This plasma has a connection that allows you to hook up your laptop to it. Its a 50'' vizio hdtv. the laptop is a toshiba tecra m2, a few years old. I know that the newer laptops are able to connect to TV's, but not sure mine can. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  1. Try S-Video, or VGA if there's that port.

Ideally, HDMI is the best method but your laptop is too old. Most recent laptops barely have HDMI ports. There is a DVI to HDMI cable, but I'm not sure if you have the DVI port, nor how good the quality will be.

  2. Considering that your laptop is older, that rules out HDMI. There's a distinct possiblility you have an S-Video port, but in the event you do, it's also likely you have a VGA port as well.

Between the two, VGA provides a better quality over S-Video.

If you have a port on your laptop that looks like that, you can visit your nearest Bestbuy, or electronics store, and purchase a Male-to-Male VGA cable. I'd recommend getting one at least 6 foot, maybe longer for convenience.

If no VGA, then perhaps you have a S-Video Port. Mind you don't get it confused with a keyboard or mouse port, as they look almost identical.

The link shows one for clarity.

Same scenario. If you have one, you can purchase a Male-To-Male S-Video cable.

You'll probably also need audio, and I'd recommend getting a 9 foot or longer 3.5 mm Male-To-Male Headphone cable.
