  1. Most likely yes...I mean these days you need a permit to do anything, it's stupid

  2. 7 acres is 2.83 hectares.

Since 1992 the Permitted Development Rights for general agricultural development have been split into two Classes of Development:-

CLASS A permission is for agricultural development on units of 5ha or more, or on parcels within that unit of at least 1ha.

CLASS B permission is for agricultural development on units up to 5ha, or on parcels within that unit of at least 0.4ha.

Whereas Class A permits any building works, excavation or engineering operations (subject to conditions), Class B is limited to more specific types of development.

In both cases development is also subject (in certain cases) to the requirement for PRIOR NOTIFICATION to the Council. This is required in order to give the Council the opportunity to consider whether prior approval should be given to the siting, design and external appearance of the building or other development.

Section 55 of the Town & Country Planning Acts 1990 provides that:

"the use of land for the purpose of agriculture or forestry (including afforestation) and the use for any of those purposes of any building occupied together with the land so used" does not constitute "development".

Placing structures on land. Structures may be placed on agricultural land for agricultural purposes without the necessity for obtaining planning permission. However, no building or engineering works must be involved. So a new barn will require permission but pig arcs or cattle feeders etc do not.

  3. I think you do need planning permission but best ask your local council. There's a family who built a house on their farm seven years ago but they have to pull it down because they did not apply for planning permission.

  4. You would have to ask your local building department.  It varies by city.

  5. Depends on the location and with any luck you won't have any zoning or building regulations (town or county).

  6. Check with Your local Planning commision. There are building codes that vary from one area to another. You will have to use the proper building materials, have an authorized electrician, and plumber in most cases.

  7. You can build it without, but the council can force you to take it down if they object to it within 4 years of your building it, they won't object though unless you have nieghbours who don't like it or it is in an area of history or outstanding beauty.

  8. You will need to, as far as I know, you have to own over 25 acres to be able to put up your own agricultural buildings without planning permision.  (I'm refering to UK laws).

The above person is right too.  (thats what we did - shh!)

  9. Building laws vary all over the place depending State , county, and local laws. Building permits are generally not much of a problem on agriculture land, especially if you do the building yourself.  It is always better to check with your local authorities before starting any buildings, however. It is a lot easier to build it right the first time than to have to start over correcting anything that might be wrong.

If you are just starting out, visit your County Extension Agent, he can give you a lot of the information you need, not only for building, but for advice on everything you may be planning to do on your farm. He is a good man to get to know.

  10. Don`t know about now,but it used to be that you could build an agricultural building without planning permission, as long as  it was 90ft.or more from a public road. (UK-NI)

  11. If you are in the UK then definitely yes, it doesn't matter if it's for agricultural use or not.
