I just bought an ASA headset new for $150.00 at the place where I get my flight instructions. I got tired of borrowing them and didn't want to spend too much. I am only flying Cessnas and Pipers at the moment. Will this be ok? It worked fine on the flight yesterday and has a lifetime warranty.

  1. they're so-so. at the end of the day DC's are the best.

  2. The ASA HS-1's are a good headset in my opinion.  No, they're not ANR Bose headsets or anything, but they do their job.  I keep two pair in the plane and a set of Denali.  I prefer the HS-1.  Buy a pair of the gel ear seals for $30 and you have a very comfortable headset.  Plus, ASA warranties the headset for life for any reason of breakage.  My dad broke his and they replaced it without even asking how they got broken.  With DC you would be buying a new pair. :)

  3. if youre happy with it, then its fine

As you move on to aircraft with bigger, louder engines, you might want to upgrade a bit to get it a bit quieter, but theres also kits you can buy to electronically lower the dB you hear from anything outside the radio.

They cost about $100 last time I saw one, but i think something like a david clark headset with it already built in would be best when that time comes

  4. It is a good quality "introductory" headset. It will last for years if properly maintained. I have two pair, both about 8 years old, neither have required any repair and both are still very functional. There are certainly others that are of higher quality for sure, but yours will be adequate for your needs, and will  be useful in higher performance aircraft as well..
