  1. All medicines have to be given in prescribed doses and as far as children are concerned you need to check if they are suitable according to age also!!

    From the Electronic Medicines Compendium website:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...
    Robitussin Chesty Cough Medicine - product warnings:
    4.2 Posology and method of administration
    Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: One 10ml measure up to four times daily
    Children:
    6 – 12 years: One 5ml measure up to four times daily
    2 – 6 years: One 2.5ml measure up to four times daily
    Under 2 years: Do not use in children under 2 years of age
    4.3 Contraindications
    Do not use in children under 2 years.
    4.4 Special warnings and precautions for use:
    Not to be given to children under 6 years of age unless directed by a doctor or pharmacist.
    4.9 Overdose
    Symptoms
    Treatment: Gastric lavage together with appropriate supportive therapy dependent upon individual response to the preparation.
    Children are often sensitive to food colourings that are sometimes added to medicines so check the label for E numbers. If you know your son is sensitive to these then look for one that is additive-free. Your pharmacist should be able to advise you. Food additives have been implicated in hypersensitivity disorders in children.
    Just make sure you follow the dosage as prescribed and if in doubt ask your doctor or pharmacist again for instructions. You should know from observation if your child is affected detrimentally from taking the medicine. If so - stop at once and consult a doctor asap.
  2. yes
  3. Nn lo so, mi disp :'( .......ciaooooo!
  4. if he's allergic to DX M then it could kill him.
    <-----allergic to DXM, just one spoonful can narrow my airways to make breathing difficult, cough until I crack ribs and get dizzy, and break out in weeping sores.  Have no desire to find out what a whole bottle will do to me.
  5. It'll make him sick. Robitussin usually has other chemical ingredients in it that will hospitalize you if you take too much. It's a stupid way to get high because it's a bad trip that makes you feel physically sick after it's over with (bad hangover).
    In other words, if you're worried about your son getting high, don't buy stuff that has dextromethorphan in it (DXM).
  6. If it's a 4 ounce bottle, and he drinks it in one session, he will get a pretty decent trip off that stuff...
    And yes, DXM is the active ingredient.
