Our new house has a terrible looking kitchen. The previous owner replaced the cabinet doors with new ones, that are beautiful. However, they don't even come close to matching the frames of the old cabinets. This is our first home and know nothing about anything, lol. Also, we don't have too much money. The cabinet doors are a light honey color, and the backdrop is a dark color, they look like old style trailer cabinets. Whats the best and cheapest, and perhaps the easiest way to update them? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

  1. You might hate to do this but I would paint the cupboards white and the doors. High gloss enamel. It will take some work but will be worth it. We did our kitchen and we love it.You'll need to go to Lowe's or Home Depot they will tell you everything to do. One suggestion don't use Behr paint very hard to work with. We liked Olympia. Home Depot will recommend Behr. We went to Lowe's  The doors are very easy to keep clean.

  3. Good kitchen cabinets are made to last for many years and are worth spending money to get something you can easily live with. They are not inexpensive. Learn to love what you have for a while and set aside savings for several years, then call in a cabinet maker and have him build you new kitchen cabinets. Also, plan to have new counter tops.

If you feel you must do something before then your choices might be to either remove the varnish and re-varnish the cabinets the same color or try to make the doors the same color as the darker parts. You could remove the varnish and paint them. Check with your paint stores. There might be a paint that would stay on the varnish without having to remove it first, but I doubt it.

If you don't like those options there are local stores in most cities that will plan your kitchen for their already made cabinets.

  5. take the doors off and repaint to cabinets the same colour of the doors this way you wont see the difference and the improper fit , you could also remove some doors and use the shelving as a display for your nice glasses or tea cups. i will try to find some pictures to give you an idea, keep looking at my post I will update when I find something .
