  1. I realize funds are tight but this service may be able to help you work out a payment plan to pay for her care.

    Good Luck.

  2. The vet you brought the bird to was NOT an Avian Vet. That is what this "specialist" is an avian vet.

Tell your parents that by letting you get a bird, that they are responsible, BY LAW, to get this bird cared for properly and any health related problems he encounters is their responsibility.

If they still won't pay, you're going to have to bring him to the Humane Society or try finding him a Parrot-dedicated resuce facility to live out his life at. These places will also give him the help his leg needs to heal properly.

He will not be handicapped for the rest of his life, the Avian Vet will fit him for a cast, give him an e-collar and you will have to care for him non-stop, around the clock, for at least the next 4 weeks until the leg is healed.  Afterwards, he will be back to 'normal.'

I am 19, also paying for college.  Why not use some of your student loans to get this looked at?  This should highlight the importance of having money set aside for your pets if cases like this creep up.  I agree with what the person said above; that you should bring the bird to the avian vet and see if you can set up a payment plan.

Time will not heal this, the bone needs to be set straight, and then a splint made to ensure that it heals properly and straight.

  3. they will x-ray it and fix it if possible, but i will tell you right now that a specialist will be expensive!

try to make it eat, keep it hydrated!

  4. Probably will insert a feeding tube and fit her for a cast or a prosthetic leg.  They may also suggest therapy to get your bird used to living with her handicap.

  5. im so sorry i know what your  going through i did it but with a lin. parakeet. um for how small my bird was she told me that they really couldnt do very much. and they really wanted to put her down =[ so i talked to a friend and they told me to put him in a aquarium and like some soft beding. this way they dont fill like climbing  up bars and things. you will need to give alot of attention to her. and work with her leg. it will never be straight or completly normal but soon enough it will heal in its own way. therapy would be good to. but dont put her back in a cage until she is safe.

  6. I would call the vet specialist and tell them exactly what has happened and that you haven't got the funds to pay for the vet charges. How old are you? Do you work at all? There isn't very much hope for your bird if you don't take it to be seen by a specialist. Birds bones are very difficult to work with because they are so small and delicate. Some vets will do a deal where you could pay monthly for the fees owing. Try and make a deal with your parents. Perhaps you could do work around the house and garden to earn enough to pay the vet. Where there's a will there's a way. Always keep your promises and do what is required of you if you do get the money for working. One day you may need that someones help again. So be true to your debts.

    Good luck!
