  1. It depends a lot on what you're looking for... after doing a bit of research on what you need to care for both, only you can say which is better for you... other than that, neither is "better" than the other except for turtles are better at swimming and tortoises are better at digging.

In most cases, however, aquatic turtles don't live the insane amount of time that tortoises do (there are exceptions on both sides of this)... for example, box turtles, which seem to come up in questions here a lot, can live over 80 years if you take care of them properly... red eared sliders, however, if taken care of properly, /usually/ don't live more than 35 or 40 years...

Again, only you can say which is better for you... after a lot of research.

  2. both are scary.

  3. Aquatic turtles cost allot of $$$$$$

The bigger the environment the bigger the healthier the turtle. Remember 10 gallons for every inch of turtle. I have used kiddy pools and plastic pond liners from most nurseries and worked great.

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA/UVB for 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

Total Body length: 5-8" average, up to 12 inches max. Life span: 15-25+ years

Males have the longer front nails and are used in mating. And are considered mature at about 5 yrs old. You can’t start sexing till about  3” across.

You need a good filter system! Gravel larger than they can swallow.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear in a few days!

This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They sleep at the bottom of rivers, streams. lakes or ponds or your tank to avoid predators like coyotes,  foxes, owls, hawks, possums, raccoons and even some wide mouth bass.

TOSS in a bird cuttle bone in the water for calcium. it will dissolve real slow and if they eat it that’s fine!!

They can have garden worms, meal worms, crickets, flies, crayfish small frogs, dragon flies and  anything that moves only as a treat.

They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.

You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles from their nose.

**Swollen cloudy eyes means lacking in Vitamin A. Which we all need for good eyes. Google ‘vegetables with Vitamin A.

Contact the “www.anapsid.org/societies, for a turtle vet /  rescue in your city and state.

    I wish you luck.

  4. personally i have a passion for tortoises but when i have the time and space i want to get a couple of res turtles, but if you are looking for a tortoise and turtle the best thing you can do is to research both and see what you can care for it really is a personal choice

  5. turtle :)

  6. turdle!

  7. tortoise: Land(not a bunch of water, easier to clean up after)

    Turtle: needs alot of water(water=hassle/mess)

    Tortoise are way better!

  8. Depends on your personality and the type of care you are able to provide. Tortoises cost less to set up (no filters needed) but still need UV light and proper diet and heat. They are slower, but very personable. Some aquatic turtles take more time to tame down.

torts rarely bite, and are cheaper to feed, generally, because you can feed them weeds and grass from the yard. And because they live on land, you can walk with them, hand feed them (without worrying about getting bit), and easier to take to a friends if you need someone to care for them when you go away.

    I have both.

I enjoy both, but honestly, the torts become more of a "friend" because they are not in the water all the time, they come when they see me, and they are easier to watch than my turtles (I keep them in outside ponds)...I wouldn't give up my snapper for anything, but my tortoises have become real pals.

  9. ////////////????

  10. I dunno...  they both run away. T_T

  11. lol Totoise are big and grow even bigger you can let them roam in the back yard but they like to dig

turtle stays in a cage with water but there are many sizes so pick what fits better for you

  12. They are two different things. A turtle lives in water and a tortoise lives on land only.

  13. Definitely Tortoises because, believe it or not they're smarter. And cuter cause they look like grandmas and they is BIG.
