we went through a raining spell were it lasted 3 days, well today I let my dogs out back to play and noticed that, there was like those wild mushrooms (fungus), I picked them up, and I am pretty sure the dogs

didn't eat them but I have heard the are toxic is it true?

will it hurt my dogs?

I am pretty sure my dogs didn't eat them as there were no chunks missing, but should I take them to the vet?

If not should I be looking for symptoms of poisoning? sorry there are so many questions I just don't want anything to happen to them thank you for taking the time to answer.

  1. You should just to be on the safe side

  2. According to several veterinary websites, and several poison hot line websites, the poisonous mushrooms are parasol shaped (meaning they are shaped like umbrellas). They had three examples of poisonous mushrooms: http://homecookhost.homestead.com/files/...

All species of "Amanita phalloide" are toxic, they look like this:

The symptoms of being poisoned via mushroom are: excessive drooling, abdominal pain, liver damage, kidney damage, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, coma, and death

If you think your dog ate them, and they match with any of the above, its best to take the dogs and the mushroom to the vets office for complete reassurance.

  3. Some mushrooms are poisons and if your dogs ate them they might be poisoned.

  4. Same problem here, mushrooms coming up all over, but I don't think dogs normally eat them - at least none of mine ever have in the 20 years we have lived here with mushrooms coming up after a lot of rain.

Just keep an eye on your dogs - if they start to vomit or have diarrhea, get them to the vet.   I doubt they ate any and not all mushrooms are poison, just hard to tell the difference.

  5. Yes indeed they are toxic to dogs.   I just go around my yard and pick any that have popped up over night.  I then throw them away in the garbage.

Here shows some of the types that are know to be very toxic to dogs.

I just get rid of them all.

  6. Some mushrooms are poisonous and you should take your dogs to the vet to be safe. You should also pick those mushrooms out of your yard and throw them away.

  7. sometimes some dog can sense that there toxic an will stay away from them but if your dog ate them than thay might get an upset stomach.

  8. bring ur dogs to the vet anyways just to be safe.  remove the mushrooms.  if they are redish-pinkish with white spots, then its a fly agaric mushroom.  these are poisonous.  if it was long-ish and white, maybe a destroying angel?  these can be fatal.  anyways, just check with ur vet. :)

  9. White cap mushrooms that sprout after long rainy periods are poisonous to dogs. Don't pick them yourself either go to home depot or lowes and find lawn treatment made specifically to get rid of them or call lawn care professionals to come out and treat your yard.

Keep a sharp eye on your dogs

  10. Don't rush to the vet if your dogs appear fine. IF they did eat them and they caused harm, then take them to the vet. Look for changes in your dogs, their appetite, are they lethargic? Is their fecal matter different. Otherwise I am sure they are fine and it can save you a trip to the vet.

My dog used to eat anything and everything she could find. Most time it passes thought their stomachs without it really upsetting them.

Dogs usually don't want to eat mushrooms anyways :) I don't blame them!

    Good luck!
