Just curious.?

I am a figure skater and I am also on a USFA synchronized figure skating team. I often have to explain to people what this is. Does anyone else ever have this happen to them? How do you respond?

P.S- I always tell them it is like Synchronized swimming on the ice.

  1. No, because synchronized skating doesn't exist in Mexico. I know what the sport is and I even saw the local Pasadena skating rink practise their routine a few times when I went to LA; but I've never actually seen a real synchro competition.

The sport won't become big until the Olympics add it (and considering they've wanted to add more Winter sports for some time I'm surprised they haven't done it already).

  2. lol yea not very many people understand the true meaning of synchro where i come from ... when i say synchronized ice skating they just get an image of synch swimming ...

but i think its more lyk cheerleading than synchronized swimming ... dnt u think? .. like the atmosphere of the competitions and the situations they have are SO similar to synchro where i come from ...  (like the movie Bring It On)

so i just ask them if they have seen the movie Bring It On and get them to picture that crossed with synchronized swimming but gliding and moving on ice ... =]

you should see their faces ... they are always like WOAH COOL!!! lol

    =P

  3. I don't get asked a lot here.  Synchro is popular here, so our synchro teams are on the news every once in awhile.  If I have to explain it, I explain it as a group of skaters, skating together making cool formations, performing intricate footwork with not a lot of jumping or spinning. :)

  4. Every day of my life! Syncho is more like a dance team to me, but a swimming team is a good description too.
