I was just wondering if the people who choose very popular names for their children are not aware of how popular they are, or if they just love the name so much that they don't care?

Top 5 names for 2007

Jacob

Michael

Ethan

Joshua

Daniel

Emily

Isabella

Emma

Ava

Madison

These are all beautiful names, no wonder everyone loves them! I mean no disrespect to anyone..Just curious!

  1. I guess they really like the name, and don't care how popular it is. Anyway, just because a name is popular, doesn't mean your child will meet anyone with the name. Emma is real popular, but I never met an Emma.

  2. We chose Miguel Eduardo (Spanish for Michael Edward) because these are family names, and of course are beautiful. It's not the popularity of the names that called our attention to using them...just wanted to honor family and tradition.

We opted against unusual names just because it seemed too attention-seeking. We believe that our son didn't need a weird or uncommon name to make him unique...he certainly is unique in his own special ways.

  3. Well I guess they don't want their kids name to be like "Apple" or "Lalala" or something weird because thats what everyone loves to do now...

Or they probably like them a lot and don't care. There's nothing wrong w having 4 Isabella's in your grade, I mean I'd rather that then have my name be "Karrot" or something lol!

  4. Many are biblical names that have been popular for centuries.  They just phase in and out every couple of generations.  I know plenty of Dans and Michaels.  I know someones grandmother who is named Emily.  They'll always be favorites!

  5. I honestly didn't care where the name's ranked in popularity.

I had those names picked out for years prior.

My daughter's name I had picked out when I was 5 years old, good thing my husband liked it, too.

Christopher and Sara, I liked them, I still like them, I don't care how many others there are.

  6. a variety of reasons i think.

some are family names.some are just because they are liked so much.they are all nice names.some are very common and over done but to each their own.

at least they are real, not misspelled ,gender appropriate, really classic names!!! that makes them better than all the trendy,made-up,misspelled,inappropriate c**p some are calling names!!!

honestly there are dogs  and cats with better names and pedigrees than many innocent children, sorry but that is the facts! good luck!

  7. i like most of the names but some of them r not my taste like ethan eww!

but i like all the grl names. ppl dont care that its popular

  8. I'm guessing most people just don't care if it's popular. I personally wouldn't go with a popular name, but then again, none of those are favorites of mine anyway, except maybe Ava. I tend to like more old-fashioned, less-used names, like Agatha (g) or Eustace (b). It's just my own preference, really, and I think that's what it boils down to with the popular names, too.

  9. When I choose my son's name Jaden I was trying to think of a name  I haven't heard a lot.  I had no idea that everyone was naming their kids Jaden, Kaden, Hayden and all the other aden names.  So I think sometimes you just don't know what is going to be popular.   My third child I named Javin and I can't believe I still hear kids with that name too.

  10. im guessing they like the names and dont care if they are popular.

  11. I do believe that in some cases people just choose names because they love them or they mean something special regardless of how poular they may or may not be.  If you really love a name then go for it regardless because otherwise you could be spending the rest of that childs life wishing they were someone else or using your preffered name as a nickname which can get way too confusing!

Something i would reccomend to anyone choosing a baby name who is worried about the popularity is the playground test.  You feel like a bit of an idiot but it's amazing!  This is how it works...

Once you have a shortlist of names go down to a popular childs playground and call your child to come home.  If you call your name saying it's time to come home and half of the children turn around thinking you are calling them your name might be too popular.  If however when you call your name and the parents all look around you have probably chosen something that causes people to say "where is that poor child, what a cruel parent"

  12. We tried to choose unique, but normal names and it worked twice. With our middle 2 daughters, they were the first with their names and then it seemed EVERYONE was using the names.

I don't think most people care about using overly popular names.

  13. i really like those names and just because sombody puts a popular name for there kids dosent mean they dont love them

  14. I would hope that people chose them just because they loved them!
