I'm a vegetarian and am curious why people think it is humane to abuse animals and kill them for consumption. Please be polite. Don't judge me, and I won't judge you. I am just curious :D

  1. Because the government tells them they have to. And they believe it. Which is very foolish because 1/2 the government listens to lobbyists and not scientists.

  2. I think you've realised now that it is judgemental to ask why people "think it is humane to abuse animals."

Anyhow, to answer your question, I believe people eat meat for a variety of reasons.  Many of them eat meat (and the quantities/portions that they do) because it is their culture.  For some, that culture was spawned by what was available.  For example, in very cold places where vegetation struggle, Inuit might eat a lot of meat from the sea.  Or wandering nomads might have hunted game because it was less time-consuming than scavenging.

Another reason I think people eat meat is because they find the fat content and texture satisfying.  A lot of meat has a unique firm/soft, chewy, juicy texture that I have yet to experience in a vegetable product.

Other people may eat meat because they believe we fall above animals on the food chain.  They may think of humans as the "highest" living being and that all life below us is available for our use and consumption.

Some cultures don't believe that animals think and feel as you might so there is no sense of what is "humane."  Other individuals have been desensitized to the idea of animal thoughts and feelings and may only focus on the task of raising/hunting/butchering, etc. so that they can make money.

There are a lot of reasons why people eat meat, and there are many people who do not understand or believe in animal abuse.  It has to do with value systems and cultural perspectives.  Many people have the value systems to choose vegetarianism but have not faced the reality of how many animals are treated.  There are also many people who don't believe it is humane to abuse animals but believe that if a domesticated livestock animal has lived a non-traumatic, healthy, "natural" life, that it is okay to kill them near the end of their life cycle and that doing so facilitates the cycle of life as those animals "live on" after their death.

  3. I eat meat because it is nutricious, I like it, I can afford it, It is legal, and I can sleep soundly after killing, dressing and cutting up an animal.  My wife cooks it.

  4. UH?  because it tastes delicious and PROVIDES MORE NUTRIENTS than lettuce!

By the way, vegans kill plants to eat their vegetables.

Also, vegans eat eggs and milk ,....which ARE ANIMAL PRODUCTS

  5. People eat meat because we're genetically designed to do so (that's why our teeth have points).  We're called "omnivores" - which means we eat both veggies and meat.  On the otherhand, notice that a horse's or a cow's teeth are flat (they are designed to only eat vegetable matter). They are called "herbivores"  Animals that only eat meat are called "carnivores".

Before grocery stores, people had to eat whatever they could catch or find to survive.  Now that we have grocery stores, people can make a choice to not eat meat.

  6. Because it is yummy and healthy.  I am in perfect health and I eat meat everyday.

  7. You are asking people to be polite in answering but the way your question was asked was not polite but hostile.

  8. I eat meat  because I enjoy the taste.  I have tried some vegetarian items, and quite frankly they taste horrible.  There are some I do enjoy, but they are so expensive I don't get them often.  Also I would like to add I grew up on a farm, and while I am sure there are abuses that occur they are not as frequent as some vegetarian's would like to have you think.  If you think logically this is how people make their living, and it would be counter productive to do things to intentionally harm what brings in their living.

  9. I like to eat meat, there are so many types, and different way to cook meat.

The cases of abuse you hear about, are so few, when you think of the scale of the industry.

  10. Simply i don't see it as cruel.  I see animals as just that they are lower than human. It is part of the food chain.  There are plenty of meat eating animals in the world they are not all herbivorous.   That is one two  I like meat. I really do i crave it. I  know i would not if i was raised vegatarian but i wasn't so i do.   I did not grow up on a farm but near farm area.  So it was nothing for me to go to a farm with my parents and pick out the pig we would roast for christmas it was fun to me. My grand mother kept chickens i would come home and find soup on the stove and a bag of feathers in the corner.  To me it is natural part of life. They live so that we can

  11. I WISH I KNEW...I FEEL SO BAD FOR THEM AND I HAVE SEEN SOME HORRIBLE ANIMAL ABUSE VIDEOS...IT ALMOST MAKES ME SICK OF ANYTHING ANIMAL AT ALL...BUT IM NOT VEGAN BUT VEGETARIAN

  12. Dont be sorry for your question, you are right, you are on the human way.

Ignorance is the main reason why people eat meat, the law of society tell us ''eat meat''  do this and that,  but when we open our eyes and see the thru, then we begin to respect the creation of God, animal are abused by millions every day because human race think they are better than animals, but according to the laws of nature, they are our minor brothers and we are under obligation to take care of them, violating this law means the disgrace of humanity, crimes, war, rape, suicides and all terrible thing happens to humanity, for ignorance, blessed be all humans who turns his head to heaven because they find peace, love and compassion.

Dont' worry about  other people, keep your way you are doing  excellent, other people does not matter,

  13. commercials and TV shows ppl at BBQs having fun and laughing. . . ppl on the 4th of july watching fireworks looking amazed and eating hotdogs. . . they make it look GOOD, and ppl believe it. most of them dont even realize what happens to the animals b4 it reached their plate. they think their death is quick, swift, and easy when its really painful, suffering, and agonizing. they dont kno the "wonderful taste" they get from eating the meat is actually eccess blood, urine, and chemicals in the meat. they just dont know.

  14. well I would have to say I like the taste of meat and the different kinds of meat as well. I have never tried to become a vegetarian but I just seems like I can not eat veggies all the time I like variety and different choices that you could not get from Veggies

  15. Did you mean why did people start eating meat? I'd say the ice age had a lot to do with it. We may of stole meat from other animals or found an animal that had recently died, but Early humans didn't have the tools to take down animals. When faced with starvation during the ice age we developed hunting tools. We also befriended wild dogs who  helped us hunt. Naked and without tools, in the middle of a jungle, humans are more meat then meat eater.

Throughout human history meat has been more of a treat then a daily meal. Modern farming 'factory farms' have made meat the main course it is today.

    I'm a 52 yo vegetarian

  16. cuz it's tasty

  17. well i very recently turned vegeterian and i still have meat cravings but there starting to stop

anyway they eat meat because the don't know what they do to those poor animals

  18. I love animals and eat meat.  I eat it because it is delicious and high in protein and nutrients.  I don't eat it daily, and a lot of times I will go for pasta's or salads, but I do still enjoy a nice rare steak.

I don't think it is humane to abuse animals.  I you buy organic and/or kosher meats, you are encouraging a much more humane and safe method of slaughtering livestock.

  19. Because its good. Thats the way its been done for years.

If you'd like, I'd eat you and save a cow

  20. To me, meat just tastes good. I guess it's more filling too. I enjoy eating vegetable too, but then somehow it just doesn't feel as full and filling as when I eat meat. And strange as it may sound, I don't feel like I've eaten a meal unless I eat meat. Of course sometime I just feel like I don't eat meat. But it just tastes good! Have you ever had meat? Or have you always been a vegetarian? Is it hard sometimes?
