Hello, I just filled out my FAFSA, and was wondering about my EFC. My families' EFC is 1250 - what exactly does that mean, and does anyone have any information on what types of grants I could recieve? Thank you.

  1. your school uses the efc to determine how much aid you will get, the lower it is the more $ you will get. I got like 1800 and had over half of my tuition paid for.

  2. EFC stands for expected family contribution. $1250 is the amount they expect you and your parents to come up with for the school year.

You may receive some federal grants just by filling out the FAFSA. Otherwise, you need to apply for them. Some are based on racial background, some community service experience, and some are just about being left handed or owning a goat. I would suggest doing a search for grants, and just see what comes up. a lot of website let you do something like a resume and then will notify you of grants/scholarships you may qualify for, and then you fill them out.

    Good luck!
