Just for moms?

First of all this question is only for moms who have had post partom depression after giving birth. i was reading an article and it said that women on AVERAGE are more likely to be depressed after having a boy than a girl. I would like to know what your thoughts are on this article and if you think it is true. And if it is not to much to ask a or to pain full if after you gave birth if you were depressed and if so if you had a boy or a girl?

  1. I had severe post partum depression after my first born. It was a girl. I was on a 'high' after having my 2nd, a boy, and felt quite normal after having 3rd, a boy.

More importantly is not the s*x of the child, but the fact post-partum depression is actually a thyroid disorder...I found that out the hard way, nearly 20 years on! Read up about that and you will find TONS more research, rather than the boy/girl depression ratio.

  2. I've seen those stats before...has something to do with the mothers hormone levels being high with a male child.

and PPD is pretty much a "drug" like with drawl from those hormones.

Had one night of uncontrollable weeping...but I wouldnt call it depression.  I had a girl.

  3. I was equally depressed with both sexes.

My son did cry a lot more though so that probably didn't help through the infant years.
